New labor migration rules will come into force in Georgia from March 1

Author: Ana Kakaladze / Lawyer, BDO Legal

As of March 1, 2026, new labor migration rules will come into force in Georgia, significantly changing the framework for employing foreign nationals and carrying out paid activities. These changes affect both local employers and foreign employees, as well as self-employed individuals, and introduce new requirements, obligations, and procedures. In practice, this means additional steps, deadlines, and formal processes that are important to understand and plan for in advance.

In the publication prepared by BDO Legal, a practical overview of the changes is provided, with detailed discussion of the following topics:

  • What is required for a foreign national to work legally in Georgia

  • Which procedures must be followed at this stage

  • What new obligations employers will have

  • What awaits foreign nationals who are already employed after March 1; and

  • What challenges are emerging in practice under the new rules.
